How to Interpret Dell 2230 Printer Indicator Lights

Interpreting the indicator lights on a Dell 2230d / 2230dn printer can be confusing, so we put together a list of the most common sequences and what they mean. The printer control panel features two buttons and six lights which can be on, off, blinking, or blinking slowly. At the end of this post, we have a link to the full list of sequences from Lexmark. Here are the most common:

1. Low toner.

Toner/drum and lightbulb indicators are ON (not blinking). The toner cartridge is low and will need to be replaced.

2. PC kit life warning.

Toner/drum indicator is ON (not blinking). PC kit is getting low and will need to be replaced.

3. Replace PC kit.

Exclamation and toner/drum indicators are BLINKING. PC kit is out and must be replaced. Printer will not print until the counter is reset.

4. Cartridge error.

Exclamation and toner/drum indicators are ON. There is an error reading the toner cartridge and it must be replaced.
