How to Get the Most Out of Your Printer
"There are a few ways to really get the most out of your printer and toner cartridges. Sadly, not everyone knows about
them! That’s why we created this blog post - because we want you to get the most out of your printer and cartridges.
Consider Remanufactured vs OEM There’s a bit of a stigma around remanufactured cartridges. Some say that it’s lower quality, and others even claim that it’s illegal and will void your printer warranty. However, we have some pretty solid statistics that show the stigmas are completely false:
1. It’s legal. The Supreme Court has ruled that toner cartridges are “aftermarket consumables” and as such won’t void your printer warranty.
2. It’s cheaper. Print.Save.Repeat cartridges can save you up to 60% when compared to the cost of OEM cartridges.
3. Remanufactured is just as good quality as OEM. At Print.Save.Repeat we manufacture our own Lexmark and Dell cartridges, and they’re proven to be just as great quality by the hundreds of reviews we have!
Always Keep a Backup Cartridge on Hand: This is one tip we really can never stress enough. If a cartridge is defective, or if you run out of toner quicker than expected, then it’s helpful to have a backup on hand to turn to. When you purchase your next toner cartridge, order two!
Don’t Overly Shake: Some companies (including Print.Save.Repeat) encourage shaking the toner cartridge, especially if it’s been on the shelf for a while. Instead of trying to get your upper-arm workout in via shaking, be gentle and let gravity do the work by turning the cartridge from end to end. Watch our video to get a better idea of what we mean!
Check Your Drum Unit: Sometimes if your printer randomly starts printing streaky, light print, or blank pages; if it leaks toner; or if it makes grinding / squeaking noises, it’s simply due to an old drum unit. Instead of assuming the entire printer’s broken, try replacing the drum unit first. View other troubleshooting tips on our Print.Save.Repeat troubleshooting guide!
Be Aware of Your Toner Coverage Rate: Toner coverage rate affects your page yield, which in turn affects how much toner you use per page. Some printers are set to a really high coverage rate (such as 10%) whereas the standard is typically only 5%. Changing this could lengthen the life of your toner cartridge by 2x!
