Printing on labels is tough work. The printer has to pull more toner from the cartridge, increase the temperature of the fuser, and decrease speed the media feeds through. This puts added stress on your printer. With all the extra toner being used per page, the fuser can become dirty and potentially wear out more quickly than if it were printing on plain paper. Therefore, Lexmark has engineered their printers with the ability to have fuser wipers installed.
Fuser wipers are designed to clean and lubricate the fuser. They are ten-inch long plastic pieces with lubricated felt on one side that attaches to the fuser slot cover assembly. Lexmark began selling fuser wipers with their toner cartridges under special part numbers designated for “label applications.” For the latest generation of printers, these part numbers are only available from Lexmark directly, that is until now.
