LEXMARK T640, T642, T644 PAPER JAM (ERROR CODE: 241) TRAY 1: A TEMPORARY FIX

During the course of using a Lexmark T640, T642 or T644 printer, you may run into a problem where you keep getting a 241 paper jam error and it says to check tray 1 but there's no paper being jammed in there. If you are experiencing this problem, it could mean that the tray 1 pickup rollers (the ones that pick up the paper from the tray) are worn out and need to be replaced. You should definitely replace them, but getting a replacement could take a couple days. If you can't wait that long and need to print something now, then you might be able to fix the problem temporarily!

The problem with the rollers is that they have lost friction and are not picking up the paper. The first thing to try is cleaning them with a glass cleaner like Windex. Alcohol won't work. You need something that will create the right amount of friction. We recommend glass cleaner.

The second method you can try is flipping the rubber feed rollers inside out. They may be worn on the outside, but the inside should still have plenty of friction.

To access the tray 1 pickup rollers, remove the tray completely. The feed rollers hang down slightly from underneath the printer:

One of these methods should work. But remember that it is a temporary fix and you should order replacement rollers soon.
