Welcome back to #TonerMythbusters! Today, we’re looking at a claim that in and of itself is actually true. However, it’s not always what is said but what is implied that matters. Let’s take a look.
Myth #3: Remanufacturers can’t replicate HP technology exactly because HP technical specifications are proprietary and unpublished
I have no issue with this statement at face-value, but the purpose of this claim by HP is to imply that because after-market manufacturers cannot replicate HP technology exactly, after-market products are inferior, and with that I respectfully disagree. While it is true that remanufactured toner cartridges cannot match the exact OEM technology molecule per molecule, it does not translate to inferiority. One of the few differences between OEM and remanufactured cartridges is the chemical formula of the toner. Since OEM toner compositions are proprietary and unpublished, after-market manufacturers use a negligibly different formula. It is akin to the difference between using Shell gasoline or Exxon Mobil gasoline for your vehicle. There is technically a difference in the chemical makeup, but it does not negatively affect performance.
