What is Spooling?

Ever Wonder What Spooling Is?

Spooling is a printer message that typically appears after sending a document to the printer to print. While it may seem to not have any use, it is actually quite beneficial.
First of all, what the heck does “spooling” even mean? Well, it’s actually an acronym for “Simultaneous Peripheral Operations Online.”

Let Us Explain Further

Still confused as to what it does? Let us explain. Spooling creates a waiting queue of documents/print jobs on your printer; it basically acts as your online printing calendar. This allows you to continue working, moving from document to document or website to website, without having to wait for the document to print. It also allows a buffer time so that if you change your mind and decide not to print, you can easily delete the print job - saving ink and paper! Lastly, spooling is customizable in your printer’s “Advanced” settings, so you can adjust according to your printing needs.
